Radio Park
The Radio Park, located within the SABC, is a state-of-the-art facility that serves as the hub for recording, production, and post-production studios. It is home to an in-house radio station and is fully equipped with top-tier equipment, including high-quality microphones, mixing desks, cameras, and Pro Tools systems. These facilities provide the perfect environment for recording and mixing music, hosting live productions, conducting post-production work for both audio and video, and hands-on experience with broadcasting, ensuring they are well-prepared for a career in media production.


V1 Complex
V1 comes online, equipped with TriCaster 8000, Lawo MC2 56 and Pro Tools HDX with MADI IO. It is the heart of our live production setup. This fixed installation is the shape, size and layout of a compact outside broadcasting “OB” van. It connects to the main auditorium with fibre, Dante, MADI, SDI, or analogue lines.
The 64-channel SSL 4000 control room looks onto the 170-seat auditorium, which is equipped with Avid D-Show at Front of House and Avid Profile at monitors, feeding a d&b line array. Eight cameras can connect to the TriCaster using SDI over fibre. Redundant 48-channel audio recordings can be made through the Lawo, the SSL, and the two Avid Venue systems simultaneously.

P Studios
P Studios, made up of a recording and control side, are equipped with everything you need for your projects. You’ll have access to enough microphones to mic up a drum kit, a Rednet system connected to DANTE, a headphone amplifier, a 5-piece drum kit, a Pro Tools system, and a mixing desk. These studios are perfect for recording voice overs, or band sessions .
M2
The studio features a control room with a Studer Vista mixing console, Pro Tools system, and a range of outboard processing gear. The main acoustic space includes a large stage for a full band, a Digidesign Venue Profile mixing desk for live mixing, and a JBL Line Array for front-of-house sound. There’s also a B-side recording room equipped with a drum kit, bass, and guitar, perfect for capturing live-band recordings. The setup provides a versatile environment for both studio and live recording needs.


M5C
Home to a world-class NEVE analogue mixing desk, Pro Tools, multiple HDX systems, and top-quality monitors. This studio is perfect for mixing projects, giving you access to a stunning console with some of the best pre-amps and EQs ever made.

M5A
M5A is where you’ll find our first-year audio racks for practical projects. Each rack includes a 16-channel mixing desk like the Allen and Heath Z420, a headphone amp, an effects unit, a compressor, monitors, and a microphone. These setups are perfect for getting comfortable with the basics of audio engineering and testing the equipment. The venue also has a stage and instruments you can use for both engineering practice and musician rehearsals.


Computer Labs
The computer labs located within the SABC Radio Park, specifically in MX1, P7C, and RT4, are equipped for both theoretical lectures and student projects. Each lab features high-end software, including Pro Tools Ultimate and Avid Media Composer, providing students with access to industry-standard tools for audio and video production. These labs offer a hands-on environment for students to enhance their skills and complete practical assignments related to their electives in music production, broadcasting, or post production.
MX3
MX3 is a specialized studio designed for students to gain experience with professional mixing consoles. Equipped with both an analogue Soundcraft MH3 and a digital VI1 mixing desk, this studio provides a unique opportunity for students to work with both types of consoles, developing expertise in a range of industry-standard technologies. The studio serves as a practical learning environment, helping students hone their skills in mixing and sound engineering using both analogue and digital systems.


T5
T5 is a state-of-the-art studio dedicated to electronics lectures, offering both theoretical and practical learning experiences. In this studio, students explore the inner workings of electronic equipment and have the opportunity to build their own audio devices. T5 also houses an anechoic chamber, a specially designed room that eliminates sound and electromagnetic wave reflections, creating an almost silent environment.
Academy of Sound Engineering Radio
The Academy of Sound Engineering Radio Station located in P6C offers a hands-on platform for students to practice and refine their broadcasting and presenting skills. It provides opportunities to learn live broadcasting, and radio production, while also gaining experience with sound engineering equipment. It's an ideal environment for aspiring broadcasters to build confidence and expertise in both presenting and technical aspects of radio.
