Introduction to DAW

An introduction to basic basic DAW principles of operation. This highly practical hands-on course provides the learner with the basic skills necessary to complete a basic recording project, from initial set up to final mix-down. Whether a project involves recording of live instruments, MIDI sequencing of software synthesisers, or audio looping, this course will provide the basic skills to succeed.

- Correctly distinguish analogue and digital signal paths.
- Identify and describe the function of the common components of linear and non-linear digital audio systems.
- Choose appropriate interface between various digital audio components.
- Choose appropriate digital audio data types (file types and streaming formats) for a variety of situations.
- Demonstrate basic skills in the use of a DAW application.
- Create project sessions with appropriate track settings.
- Manage the project data folder
- Import media into a session.
- Execute basic audio and MIDI recordings.
- Demonstrate basic selection, navigation and editing techniques.
- Quantise MIDI
- Demonstrate basic mixing techniques.
- Use real-time plug ins
- Bounce (render) final deliverables
